Three important people who contributed to the mystery genre are Edgar Allen Poe, Agatha Christie, and Arthur Conan Doyle. 3. In Latin, the word alibi means elsewhere. It is evidence that someone was elsewhere when a crime was committed, suggesting their innocence. 4. A red herring is a clue to mislead or distract the reader. 5. Anton Chekhov, a Russian writer, introduced the concept of Chekhov’s gun, which is the idea that objects and elements mentioned in a story should always be relevant.
