The various stages of research will be introduced and discussed: Problem Statement, Research Questions / Hypotheses, Review of Literature, Data collection, Data Analysis, Findings and Discussion, Summary, Recommendations, Conclusions and References.  Course Objectives You will learn how to: 1. Understand the nature of research and research writing stages, sections and processes. 2. Differentiate between various research methods and designs: Quantitative, Qualitative, Mixed Methods, etc. 3. Formulate good and valid research questions/hypotheses. 4.. Learn how to read and review the literature on a particular research topic.  Course Objectives You will learn how to: 5. Word ‘Research’ is comprised of two words = Re+Search. re is a prefix meaning again, anew, or over again. search is a verb meaning to examine closely and carefully, to test and try. Research is also considered as the application of the scientific method in solving problems. Research is a systematic effort to gain new knowledge. What are research skills? Research skills are the ability to find an answer to a question or a solution to a problem. They include your ability to gather information about a topic, review that information and analyze and interpret the details in a way to support a solution. Purpose of Research Purpose of Research: Is to discover answers to questions through the application of scientific procedure. Is to find out the truth which is hidden, and which has not been discovered as yet. To gain familiarity with a phenomenon or to achieve new insights into it. Purpose of Research: To determine the frequency with which something occurs or with which it is associated with something else.  Characteristics of Research: 1. Research is directed toward the solution of a problem. 2. Research requires expertise. 3. Helpful in predicting future. 4. Research is based upon observable experience or empirical evidence. 5.
