Study Notes

  • The 9-act structure is a model used in narrative fiction that divides a story into nine parts, often called the Setup, the Confrontation, the Resolution, the Climax, the Denouement, and the Post-Climax.
  • The 9-act structure is often used by book writers to help structure their stories. It has seven parts as the name suggests. The first part is the Hook, which introduces the conflict, sets it up, and draws the reader in. The Plot Point 1 occurs here, and it's important because it fuels the rest of the story. Midpoint and Pinch Point 1 occur later on, and they're important because they introduce new characters and plotlines. The climax is the most important part of the 9-act structure, and it's where the protagonist faces the antagonist and tries to resolve the conflict. The Post-Climax follows, and it's where the protagonist finally wins or loses the conflict. The Denouement is the last part of the 9-act structure, and it's where the author wraps up the story and answers any questions the reader may have.
  • Marketing is the process of creating value for a company through the distribution of products or services.
  • It involves creating a relationship with customers, developing and executing a marketing plan, and monitoring and measuring results.
  • The key facts to remember from the text are that marketing is about creating value for a company, developing a relationship with customers, executing a marketing plan, and monitoring and measuring results.

Test your knowledge of the 9-act narrative structure often used in fiction writing and the fundamental concepts of marketing.
