Volleyball Court

A volleyball court measures 60 x 30ft (18m x 9m) in size, divided into two 30ft x 30ft (9m x 9m) squares.
The court has various lines, all 5cm wide, including service lines, center lines, attack lines, and boundary lines.
Lines must be painted in a light color, different from the floor and other lines.

Volleyball

A volleyball must be spherical, made of flexible leather or synthetic leather, with a rubber or similar material bladder inside.
The ball should have a circumference of 20-27 inches (65-67cm), weigh 9-10 oz (260-280g), and an inside pressure of 4.26-4.61 psi (0.30-0.325 kg/cm²).

Net and Net Posts

The net is placed vertically over the center line, with the top at a height of 2.43m for men and 2.24m for women.
Net posts are 36 feet apart, 3 feet from the sidelines, and 2.55m high, preferably adjustable.
The net is 1m wide and 9.5-10 cm long, made of 10 cm square black mesh.

Playing Area

The playing area includes the court and a minimum 3m wide free zone on all sides.
The playing surface must be flat, horizontal, and uniform, with no danger of injury to players.
Only wooden and synthetic surfaces are allowed.

Basic Skills

Serving initiates play, with techniques including underhand, float, jump, and top spin serves.
Passing involves receiving an opponent's serve and/or overhand attack, with techniques including forearm and overhand passes.
Setting aims to position the ball for a teammate's overhand attack/hit.
Blocking involves jumping with hands overhead to halt an opponent's attack, with common violations including touching the net.
Hitting usually occurs on a team's third and final contact, with players often jumping to increase the difficulty of receiving the hit.

Volleyball Terms

An "ace" occurs when a served ball lands untouched on the opponent's side.
A "side-out" occurs when the serving team fails to win a point, resulting in a loss of serve.
A "stuff block" occurs when a player jumps high, blocks the ball, and it returns to the attacker.
A "dig" is when a player prevents an opponent's attack from hitting the ground.
