Singular Nouns
- Refer to one person, place, thing, or idea
- Examples: Cat, City, Book, Happiness
Plural Nouns
- Refer to more than one person, place, thing, or idea
- Formed by adding -s to most nouns: cat -> cats, dog -> dogs
- Nouns ending in -s, -z, -sh, -ch, -x, or -o add -es: bus -> buses, hero -> heroes
- Nouns ending in a consonant + y change the y to -ies: city -> cities
- Irregular plurals: person -> people, mouse -> mice
Special Cases
- Nouns that remain the same in both singular and plural forms: deer, fish, sheep
- Nouns with the same form but different pronunciations: bow (front of a ship) / bow (ribbon tied around a package)
Uncountable Nouns
- Cannot be counted and do not have a plural form
