The Pope is the Bishop of Rome, a title inherited from Saint Peter, regarded as the first Pope.
Cardinals are high-ranking church officials in Rome, directly appointed by the Pope; they assist in governance and elect the Pope.
Archbishops oversee archdioceses, which consist of multiple dioceses, effectively managing the church in larger regions.
Bishops govern individual dioceses from cathedrals or central churches, supervising priests and local parishes.
Pastors/Priests lead individual parishes; a diocese comprises several parishes.

Heresy and the Inquisition

Heresy is defined as beliefs or opinions that diverge from established religious doctrine.
