Cyberbullying
- Cyberbullying involves using the internet to bully others
- It's a serious issue, with over 50% of young people in some countries reporting experiencing it
- Cyberbullying often occurs on social media, but also via email and text messages
Methods of Cyberbullying
- Harassment: Sending threatening messages, often involving physical threats
- Impersonation: Creating fake accounts or messages to target someone, causing problems between them and friends
- Exclusion: Intentionally excluding someone from social groups or events via social media
- Dissing: Spreading rumours or untrue stories to humiliate or ridicule a target
- Photographs: Taking and sharing photos of a target without their consent, often with the intent of harassment
Effects of Cyberbullying
- Confidence: Victims often experience low self-esteem, anxiety, and depression due to the constant targeting
- Loneliness: Victims feel isolated and like no one can help them, which can lead to relationship difficulties with family and friends, eventually withdrawing from social groups.
- Change of Personality: Victims may become aggressive, misbehave, have trouble with sleep or eating, and become unwell
- Performance at School: Cyberbullying can distract students from their studies, resulting in difficulties concentrating and a decline in school performance.
