Epithelium Types

Stratified Cuboidal Epithelium

  • Thin layer of cuboidal cells, typically 2-3 layers thick
  • Found in lining of excretory ducts, such as salivary and sweat glands
  • Relatively rare occurrence

Transitional Epithelium

  • Composed of large, cuboidal cells with convex, dome-shaped surfaces
  • Can be binucleated, containing two nuclei in one cell
  • Found in the urinary system, from the renal pelvis to the urethra
  • Characterized by ability to stretch and change shape, allowing it to accommodate changes in volume of urine in the bladder
