What is the SOS response and what happens during it?
What is the SOS response and what happens during it?
The SOS response is a global response to DNA damage in which the cell cycle is arrested and DNA repair and mutagenesis is induced. During the SOS response, the RecA protein is stimulated by single-stranded DNA, leading to the inactivation of the repressor (LexA) of SOS response genes and the induction of the response.
Who discovered the SOS response?

Evelyn Witkin articulated the SOS response.
