    Study Notes

    The Design Process

    • The first diamond helps people define what the problem is and involves talking to and spending time with people who are part of the issue.
    • Storytelling offers the opportunity of hearing feedback about the product from the consumers' mouth or seeing how the product could be used in real life.

The Four Steps of the Design Process

    • Define: The understanding from the discovery phase can help describe the challenge in a different manner.
    • Develop: The second diamond inspires people to offer multiple answers to the well-defined problem, trying to find motivation from elsewhere and co-designing with a variety of diverse people.
    • Develop (continued): Every story has three elements: 1. Domain/What (definition of the topic), 2. Players/Who (people involved in the story), and 3. Story flow/How (three main chapters: beginning, middle, and end).
    • Deliver: Includes experimenting with different solutions in a limited way, discarding those that are not feasible and refining the ones that will work.

    Storytelling in the Design Process

    • Storytelling is used to identify the problem using qualitative data from consumers.
    • Several sessions using storytelling can be scheduled together with consumers who possess the persona characteristics.
    • The data gathered from these sessions need to be analyzed to form a comprehensive knowledge concerning the problem.

    Importance of Storytelling

    • Storytelling is vital to empathize with consumers and their problems as they relate their pain points.
    • Storytelling offers actual details to be used in picturing solutions to certain problems.
    • Storytelling is a vital instrument for feedback.

    Double Diamond and Thinking Processes

    • The Double Diamond represents a process that uses both divergent and convergent thinking.
    • Divergent thinking solves problems by proposing multiple possible solutions to identify the one that is best.
    • Convergent thinking concentrates on finding the single best solution to a problem.
