- Fire watch may be required due to inoperable automatic fire protection or detection services, construction/demolition activities, hot work, or other high-risk activities.
- High life-risk occupancy buildings or events require fire watch.
- Fire Marshal or authorized designee is responsible for implementing fire watch and evaluating unique circumstances.
- Building owners or authorized designees must notify the Chesapeake Fire Department immediately when automatic fire protection or detection systems are not in operation.
- Repair or corrective action should be initiated immediately and occupants should be notified when the system is back in service.
- Fire watch personnel must be approved by the Chesapeake Fire Department and have direct communication with them.
- Building occupants must be notified within 24 hours of a fire watch being established.
- The minimum level of fire watch service is one fire guard per floor in multi-story buildings and one fire guard for each fire protection system zone in a single-story building, with additional guards as needed.
