Procedures for LNG Transfer at Interior Gas Utility LNG Storage Sites

  • Only trained personnel authorized by Interior Gas Utility are allowed to operate the LNG Storage Sites.
  • Smoking is prohibited within the Storage Site area and within 50 feet of the fence, and no electrical equipment may be used unless rated as Class 1, Division 1.
  • Access paths to loading and unloading areas must be posted with "NO SMOKING" signs, and no maintenance work is allowed during an LNG transfer.
  • The LNG transfer operator must be in constant attendance during all transfer operations, and safety equipment, including insulated gloves and safety glasses, must be worn.
  • Nonsparking tools must be used when unloading LNG transports, and all vehicle traffic is prohibited within 25 feet of the unloading area during unloading operations.
  • Before any connections to the LNG transports are made, the transport must be parked on level ground and inspected for leaks and damage.
  • The transport must be labeled with METHANE REFRIGERATED LIQUID and DOT Identification Number UN 1972, and have an OWTT marking determined by a cryogenic storage retention test.
  • The manifest must be verified to ensure the transport contains methane, and the storage tank(s) must be able to hold the liquid in the transport.
  • The maximum liquid level for each tank at Storage Site #1 must not exceed specified limits ranging from 17,970 to 24,470 gallons.
