Hazard Communication Program Overview
- The program applies to any chemical or physical agent present in the workplace that may expose employees under normal or emergency conditions.
- Physical agents include cold stress, hand-arm vibration, heat stress, ionizing radiation, lasers, microwave/radio frequency radiation, noise, and ultraviolet radiation.
- Employee training includes an overview of hazard communication laws, chemical and physical agents present in the work area, and how to read and review material Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
- Qualification is provided through on-the-job training, online modules, SOP review, performance evaluation, oral and written exams.
- Continuing instruction (refresher) is conducted at intervals not exceeding two years.
- Secondary container labeling is required for all chemical products used in work areas, and exemptions apply for certain products.
- Material Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and Physical Agent Data Sheets (PADS) for hazardous chemicals and physical agents are available to employees at LNG storage sites and IGU office locations.
- The Safety Administrator is responsible for conducting an annual inventory of chemicals and updating SDS and PADS.
- Contractor employees on IGU work sites must be provided with SDS and PADS or information on their location and availability.
- Hazardous non-routine tasks are included in the chemical inventory, and employees are informed of specific hazards and protective measures.
- A list of all known chemical products at IGU is available on file with the Safety Administrator, along with physical copies of each SDS in each facility.
- Employee training records are kept on file in individual employee training files.
