What are the two main functions of D-566 (60 psig Steam Drum)?
The two main functions are to store the 60 psig steam and to separate the 60 psig steam from the condensate.
Describe the flow path of condensate that originates from the 60 psig steam users, detailing all equipment it passes through before reaching D-562.
Describe the flow path of condensate that originates from the 60 psig steam users, detailing all equipment it passes through before reaching D-562.
Condensate from 60 psig steam users flows to D-567, from the bottom of D-567 it is pumped by P-567A/B where it merges with condensate from P-566A/B before reaching D-562.
If the pressure in D-567 were to increase unexpectedly, what is the purpose of routing the overhead vapors to Z-567, and what type of device is Z-567?
If the pressure in D-567 were to increase unexpectedly, what is the purpose of routing the overhead vapors to Z-567, and what type of device is Z-567?
Routing the overhead vapors to Z-567 is for pressure relief, where Z-567, the silencer, vents the uncondensed vapors to the atmosphere.
What is the purpose of E-567 (D-567 Vent Condenser), and what are the fluids on the shell and tube sides?
What is the purpose of E-567 (D-567 Vent Condenser), and what are the fluids on the shell and tube sides?
Besides routing to D-562, name an alternate location that the condensate from P-567A/B can be sent to and where does this 'alternate' condensate originate?

Study Notes
- Condensate, blowdown from D-565, and boiler feed water from H-530 are routed to D-566.
- Make-up 60 psig steam is provided by the 100 psig steam letdown, controlled by a letdown valve.
- 60 psig steam from the top of D-566 goes to various utility stations, analyzer house, control house, E-210, E-320, E-406, E-530, H-530 (Snuffing Steam), E-130, E-140, E-745A-H, J-M, E-740, E-741, and E-730.
- Condensate from the bottom of D-566 is routed by P-566A/B (60 psig Condensate Pumps) to E-460, E-470, and E-381.
- Condensate from all 60 psig steam users is routed to D-567.
- Condensate from the bottom of D-567 is routed by P-567A/B (Condensate Drum Pumps) to merge with condensate from P-566A/B and is routed to D-562.
- Condensate from T-411 reboiler can be merged with condensate from D-567 and P-566 A/B and routed by P-414A/B to Unit 1092.
- D-567 overhead supplies letdown to D-571 (15 psig Steam Drum).
- Steam is then routed to the shell side of E-567 (D-567 Vent Condenser) and cooled with cooling water on the tube side.
- Condensed steam is routed back to D-567 bottoms.
- Uncondensed vapors can be vented to the atmosphere through Z-567 (Silencer).
Equipment Details
- The following equipment is described: D-566, P-566A/B, D-567, E-567, Z-567, and P-567A/B.
D-566 (60 psig Steam Drum)
- Dimensions: 3’D x 11’L.
- Function: stores 60 psig steam and separates it from condensate.
- 60 psig steam enters the side, condensate exits the bottom, and 60 psig steam exits the top.
P-566A/B (60 psig Condensate Pumps)
- Type: single-stage centrifugal pumps.
- Motor: 7.5 HP, 3510 RPM, horizontal, induction electric motors.
- Function: routes water from D-566 to E-460, E-470, D-562, and E-381.
D-567 (Condensate Collection Drum)
- Dimensions: 4’D x 10’L.
- Function: collects condensate and separates 15 psig steam from it.
- Condensate enters the top side, condensate exits the bottom, and 15 psig steam exits the top.
E-567 (D-567 Vent Condenser)
- Type: shell and tube exchanger.
- Function: cools and condenses overhead vapor from D-567 (shell side) using cooling water (tube side) before routing it back to D-567
Z-567 (Silencer)
- Function: reduces the sound of vapor release to the atmosphere from D-567.
P-567A/B (Condensate Drum Pumps)
- Type: single-stage centrifugal pumps.
- Motor: 10 HP, 3510 RPM, horizontal, induction electric motors.
- Function: routes condensate from D-567 to the discharge line of P-566A/B.
