Rehab Purpose & Responsibilities
- Spring Fire Department's Rehab service supports personnel at fire scenes, training events, public relations events, and as requested by Station Captains or the Executive Committee.
- Rehab members must be willing to assist at any function the Spring Fire Department is involved in.
- Members must have transportation (POV’s) available, be in good health, and have a home telephone or cell phone.
- Members must notify the District Rehab Leader of any extended unavailability (7 or more days).
- Rehab members are monitored for participation by the District Rehab Leader.
Rehab Supplies & Equipment
- The Fire Department provides a fire department pager and charger (when available), key map, Gatorade, water, a cooler with wheels (when available), a box of trash bags, waterproof boots (when available), and Fire Department I.D. and car sticker (when available).
- Unused supplies, files, and issued equipment must be returned to a Spring Fire Department representative if a member resigns or is dismissed.
Rehab Procedures
- All Rehab personnel must fill out an application form.
- Department officers can instruct Rehab members to move to a safer area if they are in a dangerous situation.
- Rehab members will assist at events when requested by Department Officers or Station Captains.
- Rehab members must keep equipment issued by the Spring Fire Department clean.
- Purchases of replacement or new gear must be approved by the Deputy Chief of Support Services.
- Dispensable supplies can be purchased by District Rehab Leaders with approval from the Deputy Chief of Support Services, reimbursable by the Spring Volunteer Fire Association.
- Special financial arrangements can be made for extenuating circumstances (excessive call volume, extended fire scenes).
- Squad 77 is the designated Rehab vehicle driven to fire scenes by fire department suppression personnel.
- Rehab members report to the Rehab vehicle at the fire scene to serve refreshments.
- Files of members are kept by the District Rehab Leaders, with the original maintained in the Administration Office.
Rehab Member Responsibilities
- Check in with the Incident Commander when arriving on scene.
- Determine or locate the Rehab Staging area.
- Wear closed-toe shoes or department-issued boots.
- Wear a Rehab shirt/safety vest if provided.
- Children are not allowed on scene.
- Privately Owned Vehicles (POV’s) are not allowed at incident scenes on freeways unless given permission by the Incident Commander.
- Check in with command and text or email the Rehab Leader to receive credit for an incident.
- Rehab 70 (RH70) must be paged to an incident.
- Rehab members are not to respond to any emergency scene without being dispatched.
Out of District Responses
- Rehab members may respond to assist other agencies if dispatched.
- Rehab members will not respond outside of Spring Fire Department territory unless dispatched.
Chain of Command
- Issues reported by Rehab members are reported to the Rehab Leader, who reports directly to the Deputy Chief of Support Services.
