Study Notes
Rehab Purpose
- The Spring Fire Department Rehab division provides support to fire department personnel at fire scenes, training events, public relations events, and as requested by Station Captains or the Executive Committee.
Membership Requirements
- Must be willing to assist at any function the Spring Fire Department is involved in as needed.
- Must have transportation available to incidents and any other functions.
- Must be in good health with full transparency with the District Rehab Leader regarding any health concerns.
- Must have a home telephone or cell phone.
- Must notify the District Rehab Leader of any times they will be unavailable for response.
Member Responsibilities
- The ability to be available for incidents is essential.
- Members are not required to respond to a minimum number of calls per quarter.
- The District Rehab Leader will monitor each member's activity and inform the Deputy Chief of Support Services if poor participation is observed.

- Gatorade - 2 Cases (24 Pack of 12 ounce bottles)
- Water - 2 Cases (24 pack of 8 ounce bottles)

- Fire Department I.D. and car sticker (when available)
Membership Application and Departure
- All personnel must complete an application form for consideration of Rehab membership.
- When a member resigns or is dismissed, all unused supplies, files, and issued equipment must be returned to a Spring Fire Department representative.
Rehab Member Safety
- Any officer of the Spring Fire Department can instruct Rehab members to move to a safer area if they place themselves in a dangerous situation.
- If a member becomes ill, medically incapable, or experiences changes in physical health, the District Rehab Leader must be notified.
- The District Rehab Leader will notify the Deputy Chief of Support Services to determine appropriate action.
Rehab Equipment and Supply Management
- Any purchase of replacement or new gear must be approved by the Deputy Chief of Support Services through the District Rehab Leader.
- The District Rehab Leader can purchase supplies with approval from the Deputy Chief of Support Services.
- Reimbursements are made from the Spring Volunteer Fire Association.
- Financial arrangements for excessive call volume or special circumstances can be made by incident command or an Executive Board Member.
Rehab Squad and Vehicle
- Squad 77 is the department's designated Rehab vehicle.
- Squad 77 will be driven to the scene by fire department suppression personnel.
- Rehab members will report to the Rehab vehicle at the fire scene.
Rehab Member Files
- Files of members will be kept by the District Rehab Leaders, with the original maintained in the Administration Office.
Incident Procedures
- Check in with the Incident Commander when arriving at a scene.
- Determine Rehab Staging areas based on the size of the incident.
- Wear closed-toe shoes on scene (if not wearing department- issued boots).
- Wear a Rehab shirt/safety vest (if one is provided).
- Children are not allowed on scene.
- Privately Owned Vehicles (POVs) are not allowed on incidents on any freeway unless given permission from the Incident Commander.
- To receive credit for an incident, check in with command and text or email the Rehab Leader.
- Rehab 70 (RH70) must be paged to an incident.
Out-of-District Responses
- Rehab members may respond to incidents outside of Spring Fire Department territory if dispatched by another agency.
Chain of Command
- Any issues raised by Rehab members will be reported to the Rehab Leader.
- The Rehab Leader reports directly to the Deputy Chief of Support Services.
Resignations
- When a Rehab member leaves the department, the Rehab Leader is responsible for retrieving all Spring Fire Department-owned equipment and unused supplies.
