Flashcards

Clavicle Ends

The clavicle, or collarbone, has a medial end that connects to the sternum (breastbone) and a lateral end that connects to the scapula (shoulder blade).

Scapula Views

The scapula, or shoulder blade, has an anterior (front) view and a posterior (back) view. The anterior view shows the subscapular fossa, while the posterior view shows the spine of the scapula and the acromion.

Humerus Structure

The humerus, or upper arm bone, has a proximal end, a shaft, and a distal end. The proximal end connects to the scapula and features the head, greater and lesser tubercles, and the surgical neck.

Neurovascular Bundle

The neurovascular bundle in the shoulder and arm consists of nerves and blood vessels that supply the muscles and tissues of the upper limb. It travels along the humerus and is crucial for function.

Clavicle Parts

The sternal head and acromial end are part of the clavicle, sternal head is at the medial end connected to the sternum, acromial end is at the lateral end connected to the acromion process of the scapula.

Study Notes

Shoulder and Arm Bone Structures

  • Clavicle: A bone that connects the sternum (breastbone) to the scapula (shoulder blade). Has three parts: sternal end, shaft, and acromial end.

  • Scapula (Shoulder Blade): A flat, triangular bone located in the upper back. Can be viewed from the front (anterior) and back (posterior) sides.

  • Humerus (Upper Arm Bone): A long bone with three distinct regions:

    • Proximal End: The end closest to the shoulder joint, with a head, greater tubercle, and lesser tubercle.
    • Shaft: The main or middle portion of the humerus.
    • Distal End: The end closest to the elbow, with a trochlea, capitulum, and epicondyles.
  • Medial, Lateral, and Neurovascular Bundle: These terms refer to the arrangement of nerves, blood vessels, and tissues in the region, but the specifics of their arrangement within the bones of the shoulder and arm aren't fully described here.
