Recall to Duty
- Off-duty employees must report for duty immediately upon receipt of orders and follow supervisor's instructions regarding BSO matters.
- Law enforcement/detention deputies and fire rescue employees are responsible for taking immediate action in public safety matters that require an immediate response, and will be considered on-duty in such cases.
- Employees must make every reasonable effort to report to duty as quickly as possible when recalled.
- If an employee anticipates a delay in reporting to duty, they must notify their immediate supervisor and explain the actions being taken to minimize the delay.
Leaving Post/County
- Employees must not leave a post or assignment without being properly relieved, except in emergency situations.
- If an employee is not properly relieved, they must notify their on-duty supervisor as soon as possible.
- On-duty employees are not permitted to leave Broward County without their supervisor's authorization, except in cases of fresh pursuit or when performing their duties.
- Employees who need to leave the county must notify their on-duty supervisor as soon as possible.
Payment for Personal Injury/Final Responsibility
- Employees cannot accept payment for personal injury or property damage occurring during work without notifying the Sheriff via chain of command, unless it's part of a lawful legal action.
Financial Responsibility
- Employees should not take on financial obligations they know or should know they cannot meet, and must pay all debts when due.
- Prolonged or severe financial irresponsibility may result in disciplinary action.
- Filing a voluntary bankruptcy petition is not grounds for discipline.
- Financial difficulties due to unforeseen medical expenses or personal disasters are not cause for discipline, as long as a good faith effort is made to settle all accounts.
