Systems for classifying documents: Encyclopedias, manuals, databases aid in establishing or adopting classification systems for specific domains. Systems can be single-level or multi-level.
TERMIUM® system: This system organizes terminology into 24 major domains, further subdivided into smaller domains and subdomains, resulting in approximately 1600 categories
Knowledge of a field's current state: A key part of terminological research is keeping up-to-date with developments and their impact on specialized discourse. This includes reviewing specialized literature, consulting with experts and examining conferences/exhibitions.
Understanding specialized documentation: Researchers must be familiar with documentation relevant to the studied subject, gaining detailed knowledge through thorough reading and connecting with experts.
Identifying specialized vocabulary: Locating terms that convey specialized knowledge is vital. This involves recognizing key documents in the field (encyclopedias, university texts, journal articles, dictionaries, and technical manuals)
Recording terminology accurately: Consistent and high-quality terminology data is critical for specialized domains. Consistency, currency, and quality are paramount. Reviewers, when applicable, guarantee the proper formatting.
Terminology files and structure: The use of files like WordPerfect or Word, along with a structured format guide, is crucial for organizing and managing terminology.
Linguistic considerations: Knowledge of the targeted language's structure is critical, including grammatical rules, lexical formations, and different language levels and styles, and this aids in reviewing documents for linguistic accuracy.
Content quality evaluation: Documentation evaluation assesses criteria like concise definitions, usage of established terms, avoidance of inconsistencies in style and the inclusion of normalized terms.
