Responding to Domestic Violence
- When responding to domestic violence calls, deputies should:
- Collect and record physical evidence, including color photographs and/or videos of injuries and property damage
- Obtain sworn written or recorded statements from the victim and any witnesses, including children
- Attempt to obtain a written or recorded statement from the suspect, after they have been advised of Miranda
- Proactively determine all the crimes for which there is probable cause
- Inform the arrested individual that domestic violence is a crime and the State of Florida is responsible for the prosecution
