    Study Notes

    Angels Recording Deeds

    • Noble angels record everything we do, say, and utter on our right and left sides, as commanded by Allah (S.W.T.).
    • These angels write down every word, expression, and deed, with no exception.

The Sense of Sin or Good Deed

    • When a person is about to commit a good deed, the soul emits the scent of musk, a beautiful scent.
    • When a person is about to commit a sin, the soul emits a nasty stench, indicating a sense that a sin is coming.

    Repentance after Committing a Sin

    • When a person first commits a sin, Allah (S.W.T.) commands the angel on the left to hold their pen for six hours (six periods of time).
    • If a person repents within those six hours, Allah (S.W.T.) does not have the angel write down that sin, but instead writes a good deed for the person.
    • If a person goes forth and commits that sin, one sin is written down.

    Effect of Repentance

    • The prophet (PBUH) said that even if a sin is written down, repentance erases it, making it as if the person never committed the sin.
    • Good deeds wipe out sins, and Allah (S.W.T.) has always left the door of repentance open.
    • In this unique situation, a good deed is written at a minimum of 10 good deeds, up to 700, or whatever Allah (S.W.T.) decrees.

    Waking Up from Sin

    • When a person is about to commit a sin, but stops and turns back to Allah (S.W.T.) in repentance, it is the best case scenario.
    • This is where a person is reminded of Allah and stops themselves from committing the sin, and instead turns back to Allah (S.W.T.) in repentance.

    Avoiding Sin

    • When a person is about to commit a sin, they should be reminded of Allah and stop themselves from committing it, rather than ignoring their conscience and Taqwa.
    • Stopping oneself from committing a sin is better than committing it and then worrying about repentance later.
