- Residential Design Drawing Standards - LEVEL 1 REVIEW
Walls
- Walls are drawn at a scale of 4" for clarity and readability
- Actual construction uses 2x4's for interior walls, and 2x6's for exterior walls and plumbing
- Align the beginning or end on drawings to simplify framing
- Avoid odd-numbered dimensions to reduce lumber waste
- Dimensions are assigned as Length x Width/Depth (right to left x top to bottom)
- Extend walls 4" beyond the end of cabinet faces
Doors, Openings, and Clearances
- Exterior Doors: 3'
- Laundry & Kitchen: 3' to allow space for a Washer/Dryer and Refrigerator
- Interior Room Entry: 32", ADA compliant
- Closets vary in size and use
- Walk-in closets must be ADA compliant
- Reach-in closets use double or bifold doors with minimum 18" panels
- Linen closets: 24"
- Hallways: 3'
- Walkway between cabinets, fixtures, and appliances: 3'
- Trim allowance adjacent to walls, cabinets, and fixtures: 3"
Windows
- Single windows: 3'
- Double windows: 2'-6" each with trim allowance between
