Chapter 10: Parcel
- Parcels are articles transported by passenger or parcel trains.
- Minimum chargeable distance: 50 km
- Minimum chargeable weight: 10 kg
- Minimum freight: Rs. 30
- Parcels scale effective from 06.8.2004
- Scale Type of Service (R, P, S)
- Chief Commercial Manager (CCM) of the owning railway decides the appropriate scale for train charging for each year
- New trains use scale “P” for the initial year if not notified by the CCM.
- Maximum weight and dimensions for parcel acceptance vary based on gauge (BG, MG, NG)
- BG: 150 kgs, 2.0 mtr x 1.5 mtr x 1.25 mtr
- MG: 150 kgs, 2.0 mtr x 1.5 mtr x 1.25 mtr
- NG: 125 kgs, 1.5 mtr x 1.07 mtr x 1.00 mtr
- Parcel charges are based on the actual weight or calculated weight based on the dimensions, whichever is higher.
- 28 cubic decimeters or part equals 4 kg
- Formula for calculating volume:
- a. Cylindrical packages: π * r² * h
- b. Conical packages: 1/3 * π * r² * h
Booking of Bulky Articles
