Section 123: Definitions
- Accident: An accident of the nature described in Section 124.
- Untoward Accident: An accident of the nature described in Section 124A.
- Dependent: Includes husband, wife, son, daughter, parent, siblings (brothers/sisters), dependent daughter-in-law, minor children, and paternal grandparents wholly dependent on the deceased passenger.

Section 124: Liability in Accidents
- Railway Administration is liable for passenger deaths, injuries, or loss of baggage in train accidents (collisions, derailments, etc.).
- Liability applies whether there was negligence or not.
- Exclusions include suicide, self-inflicted injury, criminal acts, intoxication, acts of God, or accidents where the passenger's own fault contributed to the incident. "Passenger" includes railway staff.

Section 124A: Untoward Incidents
- Incidents like terrorist activities, robbery, dacoity, or riots, or accidental falls from the train are considered untoward incidents.
- Railway Administration is liable for these incidents.

Section 125: Application for Compensation
- Compensation claims can be filed by the injured or affected person, their authorized agent, or guardian in case of minors or death.
- Compensation can be sought by dependents in the case of death.

Section 126: Interim Relief
- Railways can provide interim relief during investigations, up to the maximum amount of the potential compensation. A copy of the order is sent to the Railway Claims Tribunal (RCT) and the amount is adjusted in the final compensation.
