- Dysfunctional and inflexible personality traits that deviate significantly from cultural expectations and are shown across many situations
- Can cause significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning
- Symptoms become more visible under stress
- Pervasive and stable, with rigid traits like being irritable, demanding, hostile, manipulative, or fearful
- Difficulty in getting along with people
