- The American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM, 2001) defines professionalism as attitudes and behaviors that prioritize patients' interests over physicians' self-interests.
- The seven broad categories of unprofessional behaviors include abuse of power, arrogance, greed, misrepresentation, impairment, lack of conscientiousness, and conflicts of interest.
