Dosage Guidelines

- Restless legs syndrome: Initial dose is 0.125 mg taken 2-3 hours before bedtime, with gradual increases, maximum of 0.5 mg/day.
- Renal dosing: For adult patients with a creatinine clearance of 35-59 mL/min, start at 0.125 mg twice daily; for 15-34 mL/min, start at 0.125 mg daily. Increase as needed.
Side Effects
- CNS: Can cause agitation, insomnia, psychosis, hallucinations, depression, dizziness, headache, confusion, amnesia, dream disorders, fatigue, dyskinesia, excessive sleepiness, and sudden sleep onset.
- Cardiovascular: Orthostatic hypotension, edema, syncope, tachycardia, increased blood pressure, and heart failure can occur.
- EENT: Patients may experience blurred vision and retinal/vision deterioration.
- Endocrine: May affect antidiuretic hormone secretion (causing SIADH).
- Gastrointestinal: Possible side effects include nausea, anorexia, constipation, dysphagia, and dry mouth.
- Genitourinary: Impotence and increased urinary frequency reported.
- Hematological: Risk of hemolytic anemia, leukopenia, and agranulocytosis.
- Integumentary: Pruritus may occur.
