- Rationale: The final part of the focal perspective explains the rationale of the study. It justifies the choice of topic, and how it will address identified research gaps.
Theoretical and Conceptual Framework

Theory: A conceptual idea created to explain, predict, and understand phenomena.

Framework: A structure (like a skeleton) providing a basic reference to support something.

Theoretical Framework: The theories/models used to establish the foundation for the study.

Steps in developing a framework: Identify key concepts, use existing theories relevant to the study, use a concept map to plot the framework, and then write a narrative explanation of the concepts and their relationship.

Central and Corollary Questions
- Central Question: The central question investigates the core issue of the study (Ex- the essence of a lived experience of people in relation to the topic of study.
- Corollary Questions: Related, supplementary questions focusing on the experience(s) related to the central question. What themes emerge from the experience?
Scope and Delimitation
- Scope: Outline the parameters of the study. Focuses on who, what, when, where, why, and how of the study. Defines the study’s parameters, and answers how the study is conducted, what aspects are covered
- Delimitations: Outlines limitations; what is not covered in the study
Significance of the Study
- This details the specific contributions.
- Enumerates the benefits to the beneficiaries.
- Begins with the general and becomes more specific.
Definition of Terms
- Conceptual Definition: Meaning of a term based on a dictionary or encyclopedia.
- Operational Definition: Meaning aligned with how the term is used/applied in the study.
