The PowerPoint Ribbon
- The PowerPoint Ribbon is used to navigate the program in PowerPoint.
- The Ribbon presents buttons at the main window's top, providing access to everything the program offers.
Creating a New Presentation
- Select "File" then "New" to start a new presentation.
- A shortcut is to hold the "Control" button and press 'N' for "New" to start a new presentation.
Opening an Existing Presentation
- Select "File" then "Open" to open an existing presentation.
- To easily open an existing presentation, hold the Control button and press 'O'.
Saving a Presentation
- Select "File" then "Save As."
- Press F12 to save the file with a new name.
Adding a Slide
- Go to the "Home" ribbon and select the "New Slide" button to add a slide.
- Select the Slide Pane and press "Enter" after adding a slide.
Inserting Pictures from Files
- Go to the "Insert" ribbon and select "Picture" to insert a picture.
- Locate the image file from the folder where it is saved, and select "Insert" from the dialog box.

- Go to the "Insert" ribbon then select "Clip Art".
- Enter search terms in the Clip Art search pane to find the desired image to insert.
Formatting Pictures
- To resize an image, click on the picture to surround the image with a blue box.
- Drag the corner dot away from the center to enlarge it or toward the center to shrink it.

- The "Home" tab changes all aspects of the font size and style.

- Go to the "Design" ribbon to add a slide theme.
- Next, select a design theme from the Theme toolbar.

- Go to the "Transitions" ribbon.
- Select the desired Transition from the toolbar.
Rearranging Slides
- To move a slide, click on the slide thumbnail in the left column. – Then, drag and drop the slide at the desired location.
- To move consecutive slides at one time, click and hold the Shift key while selecting the slides. – Finally, drag and drop the slides at the desired location.
Previewing a Presentation
- Go to the "Slide Show" ribbon.
- Select the point in the slide show to begin viewing from:
- From beginning
- From current slide
- The shortcut key is F5.
Viewing Slides vs. Outlines
- The default view is Slides.
- A second option is Outline view to show the slide show as outline notes.
Printing Handouts
- Select "File" then select "Print".
- A dialog box appears that allows the user to change the printer and select the number of copies to print.
