Plastics are synthetic materials made from organic polymers derived primarily from petroleum and natural gas. They have become ubiquitous in modern society due to their versatility and low cost. However, they also come with certain drawbacks, particularly when it comes to their persistence in the environment. There are several main categories into which plastics can be divided, each having its own unique properties and applications:

  • Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET): This is one of the most common forms of polyester used in containers such as soda bottles. It's lightweight and strong yet durable enough to resist scratches while still being flexible enough for sealing purposes. PET is often used because it's relatively easy to recycle without causing any harm to humans or animals.
  • High Density Polyethylene (HDPE): HDPE is another type commonly found in milk jugs and other food packaging items like bags; this material provides excellent resistance against chemicals & moisture making them ideal for storing liquids. Due to its high strength and toughness characteristics, HDPE has been widely adopted worldwide for various uses including toys!
  • Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE): LDPE offers good flexibility along with resistance towards temperature changes; these qualities make it suitable material choice for many industrial processes where heat management matters greatly. One example would be insulation material used inside homes during winter seasons!
