Acetaminophen / Tylenol
- Non-narcotic analgesic and antipyretic
- Inhibits cyclooxygenase
- Indications: mild pain, moderate pain, and fever
- Dose and route:
- 325-650 mg every 4-6 hours (oral)
- 650-1000 mg (IV)
- 1 gram (causes nausea)
- PED: 10-15mg/kg every 4-6 hours
- Warnings and interactions:
- Use with caution in children
- Monitor BP, syncope can occur
- Hypotension can occur, wipe paste off immediately if it occurs
- Side effects: hypotension, dizziness
Norepinephrine / Levophed
- Sympathomimetic
- Causes peripheral vasoconstriction
- Indications: systolic BP < 0.5 mEq/kg, hyperventilation, cardiac arrest, and hyperkalemia
- Dose and route: every 10 minutes
- Warnings and interactions:
- Delivers large sodium load
- Can deactivate catecholamines
