  • The term 'pharmacology' comes from the Greek words pharmaco (drug) & logy (study)
  • Drugs are chemical agents that interact with specific target molecules to produce a biological effect
  • After a drug is administered, it is called Medication

Therapeutics & Pharmacotherapeutics

  • Therapeutics is the branch of medicine concerned with disease prevention & treatment of suffering.
  • Pharmacotherapeutics is the application of drugs for the purpose of disease prevention and treatment of suffering.

Sources of Drugs

  • Plants
    • Drugs derived from plants processed into chemicals
