Personnel Policies
- Purpose: Mom's Healing Hands provides a home-like setting for semi-independent living consumers, maximizing their social and psychological growth.
- At-Will Employment Status: The employment relationship is "at-will," meaning either party can terminate it with or without cause and notice.
- Equal Employment Opportunity: The company follows an equal employment opportunity policy, prohibiting discrimination based on various factors.
- Management Rights: Mom's Healing Hands has the authority to hire, terminate, suspend, and discipline employees, determine work hours, assign tasks, transfer employees, or lay off employees as deemed necessary. Also, management rights include setting classifications, duties, responsibilities, specific services, methods, or processes.
- Dress Code: Employees must wear scrubs. Scrub hats are optional, but other non-professional hats are prohibited. Clothing must be clean and appropriate. Footwear must be job appropriate and safety-related (e.g., steel-toed boots, gym shoes).
- Qualifications: Administrators must have a high school diploma or equivalent and at least one year's experience related to the homes program and admission policies, and must be suitable to meet the residents physical, emotional, social, and intellectual needs. Administrators must also be capable of handling emergencies, program planning, and development along with all areas including but not limited to: Nutrition, First Aid, CPR, Foster Care, Safety and Fire Prevention, Financial and Administrative Management, Knowledge of the population, and Communical Diseases.
- Personnel File: Contains employee application, tax forms, educational records, experience, salary, evaluations, reprimands, and other disciplinary actions.
- Disciplinary Actions: Includes verbal warning, first written warning with a plan of action, and final written warning with consequences like suspension or termination.
- Incidents and Accidents, Resident Absent Without Notice: Reporting procedures are outlined.
- Volunteers: Need to state they're well in physical and mental health as well as complete required standards.
- Military Leave: If a staff member enlists, they need to provide proper notice and documentation.
- Vacations: Employees can request one week, in writing, in advance.
- Sick Days/Medical Leave: All regular, full-time employees can return to work with appropriate documentation.
- Bereavement: Employees are entitled to one day off for attending a family member's funeral.
- Jury Duty: Mom's Healing Hands encourages employees to participate as jury members.
- Workers' Compensation: Employees are covered by workers' compensation insurance.
- Social Security: Mom's Healing Hands deducts Social Security taxes from employees' wages.
- Communications: Any issues or concerns about treatment or fairness need to be reported to the home manager, with a willingness to follow up with higher management as a second step if necessary.
- Confidentiality: All resident information is confidential, and staff must be mindful of appropriate communication.
- Sexual Harassment: Company policy dictates reporting procedures.
- Residency Rights: The company policy establishes various resident rights, including freedom from discrimination on the basis of race/religion/gender, freedom of movement/association/religion/freedom to refuse participation in religious practices, rights to write/send/receive mail without censorship, rights to telephone communication & a right to visit, and access to community services.
- Substance Screen: If requested, Mom's Healing Hands employees must submit to a substance screen.
- Employee Handbook Changes/Waiver Clause: The policy manual is only a guideline and the company can change terms and conditions, add or delete as needed (without notice).
- Exit Interview: At termination, employees must participate.
- Transportation of Residents: Policy and employee qualifications for driving.
- Employee Statement: An employee statement acknowledging acknowledgment of the handbook.
Other Policies
- Time Sheet Administration: Record of all work hours, employees sign in/out, time sheets are required and must be approved.
- Absence, No-call, No-show, Tardiness: Tardiness (late more than 3 times in 30 days), and no-call/no-show situations can result in discipline such as probation, suspension, or termination.
- Acceptance of Gifts and Loans: Strict guidelines discourage accepting gifts from clients or residents.
- Media Releases: Policy prohibits release of information to media without administrator/executive director approval.
- Other Employment/Dual Employment: Employees may not work another job that competes with or resembles Mom's Healing Hands' services.
- Inspection of Containers/Packages: Handling of containers/packages leaving/entering facility is subject to inspection.
- Employee Honesty and Integrity: Employees are expected to follow policies and remain honest in all actions.
