- A person needs two things to exercise control:

- Predictable and responsive situation: the situation needs to be somewhat predictable and responsive to one's control attempts.
Basic Idea
- If the world is predictable and responsive, and you possess skills, exert effort, and utilize constructive strategies, you can justifiably expect to have control over what matters to you.
Coping with Failure
- High personal control: adapting to failure in a constructive manner.
