Start-up Sequence
- The PASS device goes through a start-up sequence when it wakes up from sleep mode, providing information to the control module about the SCBA's operational state.
- The logo screen displays the MSA logo, unit, and riding position (if assigned) on the control module.
- The buddy lights on the power and control modules cycle through red, yellow, and green, while the power module plays the start-up tone.
- The PASS device performs a self-test to ensure it's operating correctly during this sequence.
Self-Test Results
- A successful self-test displays a "Go" icon, indicating the SCBA can be put into service.
- If maintenance is required, the overhaul reminder icon appears, indicating the SCBA should be removed from service after use.
- If the SCBA should not be used, a Hardware Alarm icon appears on the control module, and a full alarm sounds from the power module.
Primary Screen
- The primary screen provides critical information to the user, including a calculated remaining service time.
- The countdown timer displays the estimated rated service pressure until 35% remaining, following the Air Management Guideline.
- The actual time remaining may be less than the calculated time displayed due to variations in breathing rate.
Secondary Screen
- The secondary screen can be accessed by pressing the green button once and displays the following information:

- Segment 1: 75-100% pressure range, green LED
- Segment 2: 50-74% pressure range, yellow LED
- Segment 3: 36-49% pressure range, three yellow LEDs
- Segment 4: 0-35% pressure range, five red LEDs
- Pressure and Color Codes:
- 50-100% pressure: green, 1425 PSI display
- 36-49% pressure: yellow, flashing display
- 0-35% pressure: red, flashing display
SCBA Unit Identifier
- The SCBA features a unit identifier that corresponds with the apparatus, assisting in quick visual identification.
- The identifier is secured to the carrier band and complements the accountability system.
- Examples of unit identifiers include Engine (E701), Aerial (L702), Rescue (R701), and more.
