General Characteristics
- Paramecium is a single-celled eukaryotic organism.
- It belongs to the kingdom Protista, specifically the group Ciliophora.
- They are microscopic, typically 50-300 micrometers in length.
- Their shape is often described as slipper-shaped or oval.
Structure
- Cilia: Paramecia are covered in tiny hair-like structures called cilia. These cilia beat rhythmically, creating currents that move food into the oral groove. They are also used for locomotion.
