  • The communication process consists of key components such as encoding, the medium of transmission, decoding, and feedback.

Introducing the Elements of Communication

  • There are seven essential elements of communication:
    • The Speaker (source of delivering the information)
    • The Message (what needs to be delivered by the speaker)
    • The Listener (receiver of the message)
    • Channel (way in which a message is sent through our senses)
    • Response (feedback from the listener)
    • Noise Source (barrier or interference in communication)
    • Destination (receiver of the message)

Shannon and Weaver's Model of Communication

  • This model is often called the Telephone Model because it is based on the experience of having the message interfered with by "noise" from the telephone switchboard back in 1940.
