OMVIC Certification Course
- This is a mandatory course for all new Ontario automotive dealers and salespeople. This course was established in 1999 by OMVIC and Georgian College's Automotive Business School of Canada.
- Students have 12 weeks to complete the course material and pass the certification test.
- A minimum passing grade of 75% is required to complete the course.
- The course material is divided into 18 chapters with review questions at the end of each chapter.
Student Manual
- The manual is the 2024 edition.
- Covers laws, regulations, and practices related to the automotive business in Ontario.
- Developed in collaboration with OMVIC and the Automotive Business School of Canada at Georgian College.
Course Content
- Includes chapters covering introduction to the course, dealer premises and records, contract requirements, retail disclosure requirements, rescission, wholesale disclosures, disclosure in advertising, extended warranties and service plans, enforcing the MVDA, avoiding curbsiders, Motor Vehicle Dealers Compensation Fund, the Consumer Protection Act, and a variety of topics like CAMVAP and safety standards.
- Contains learning objectives, summaries, definitions, and test questions at the end of each chapter.

- All new automotive dealers and salespeople in Ontario must take the course.
- A C.A.L.E. designation ("Certified in Automotive Law and Ethics") is earned to build trust and credibility with consumers.
- The course covers Ontario laws and regulations, including the Motor Vehicle Dealers Act (2002) and the Consumer Protection Act (2002).
Registration
- Enrollment in the course does not automatically register with OMVIC.
- Separate registration with OMVIC is required and details on how to register are provided once the course is completed, and the test is passed.
