Omaha Police Pipe and Drum Corps
- Established in 2010 as a volunteer organization

Policy
- To provide dignified ceremonial services to honor deceased OPD personnel

- Functions with the highest level of skill, precision, and musicianship while maintaining OPD standards
Procedure: Selection and Composition
- Composition: 15 members (5 drummers, 10 pipers)
- Sworn and non-sworn employees
- Eligibility: Members must be out of probationary status and have at least one year of sworn law enforcement or military employment.
- Administrative requests: All administrative requests (e.g., special duty, overtime, travel) are routed through the TCSS Captain.
- Application process: A formal application process is required. Openings are available to all OPD officers and employees, regardless of rank
- Pipe Major posting an Information Order in the first week of December
- Candidates will submit requests for membership to the Pipe Major via inter-office communication
- Candidate evaluations: Qualifications are checked by the Pipe Major
- Forwarding a qualification questionnaire to the chain of command. The chain of command will provide input on the candidate's character, work ethic, and suitability.
- Final decision: The Chief of Police (or designee) makes the final decision for assignment to the Corps.
- Membership does not guarantee public performance eligibility: Members may need to audition before public performances
Procedure: Pipe and Drum Corps Officers
- Officers: Pipe Major and Drum Sergeant
- Election process: Held every two years, with nominations in January and elections in March of odd years.
- Term starts: May 16th of election year
- Succession: If a chair officer resigns, the Pipe Sergeant will take over until the next election.
- Retention committee: Investigates and recommends actions (e.g., dismissal) concerning members for absences from practice and other issues that may reflect poorly on the Corps.
- Composed of three Corps members (Pipe Major, Drum Sergeant, and one at-large member)
- Committee terms coincide with the elected position's tenure (two years)
- Dismissal/Misconduct: The committee evaluates member performance, attendance, dependability, appearance, and misconduct in departmental discipline
- Membership: Officers may report to the TCSS Captain. Responsible for training, equipping, staffing, and administration.
Procedure: Member Deaths and Funerals
- Line of Duty Death: Conduct services according to their unit manual.
- Non-Line of Duty Death: Offers services, dependent on family wishes.
- Retired Officer Death: Same as above, depending on availability and family wishes
Training
- Six 1-day mandatory training sessions annually (in January, March, May, July, September, and November)
