Omaha Police Department (OPD) Medical Examinations Policy
- OPD and City of Omaha provide physical, medical, and psychiatric examinations as needed for employees.
- Examinations include: pre-employment, disability retirement, evaluations, injury on duty (IOD), exposure to contagious diseases, and environmental duty-connected injuries.
- Medical services are scheduled with occupational health physicians.
Pre-employment Medical Examinations
- Scheduled by City Human Resources (HR) before hiring sworn employees.
- Candidates receive notification of time, location, and type of examination (physical and/or psychiatric).
Disability Retirement or Special Medical Examinations
- Scheduled by City HR upon request by pension boards, department heads, or the City HR Director.
- Employees receive appointment notifications.
Evaluation Examinations
- Used to assess employee ability to perform job duties.
- May be for general health; "fit for duty" evaluations.
