What is Obesity?
- Body Mass Index (BMI) is calculated by dividing weight (kg) by height squared (m2)
- BMI is significantly correlated with total body fat content
- BMI categories:
- Underweight: < 18.5
- Healthy Weight: 18.5 - 24.9
- Overweight: 25.0 - 29.9
- Obese: ≥ 30.0
Classes of Obesity
- Class I Obesity: BMI 30.0 - 34.9
- Class II Obesity: BMI 35.0 - 39.9
- Class III Obesity (Extreme Obesity): BMI ≥ 40.0
Risks of Obesity
- Higher risk of morbidity from:
