NGN Architecture
- NGN is a packet-based network that provides telecommunication services and utilizes multiple broadband, QoS-enabled transport technologies, allowing service-related functions to be independent from underlying transport-related technologies.
NGN Basic Terms
- NGN Application: A software entity residing on an application server that contributes to the delivery of an end-user service.
- Application Network Interface (ANI): An interface that provides a channel for interactions and exchanges between applications and NGN elements, offering capabilities and resources needed for application realization.
- Application Programming Interface (API): A set of interfaces that provide services from an application environment to an execution environment.
- NGN Service Stratum: The part of NGN that provides user functions that transfer service-related data and functions, controlling and managing service resources and network services to enable user services and applications.
- NGN Transport Stratum: The part of NGN that provides user functions that transfer data and functions, controlling and managing transport resources to carry data between terminating entities.
- Open Service Environment Capabilities: Capabilities provided by an open service environment to enable enhanced and flexible service creation and provisioning based on the use of standard interfaces.
- Service: A set of functions and facilities offered to a user by a provider.
- Authorized Account: A profile of the entity that a NGN end-user can subscribe to access information via messaging exchange, sanctioned and recognized by the service provider (third-party provider) and always available to be accessed.

- The Network-Network Interface (NNI) provides connectivity to other NGNs (at the service stratum and/or transport stratum level), other IP-based networks, and PSTN/ISDN, supporting both control-level and media-level interactions.
