Purpose and Scope
- This policy outlines all daily performance expectations for members of the New Lenox Fire Protection District.
Policy
- The policy requires members to provide safe and appropriate responses to all emergency calls.
- Members are expected to provide professional and competent services.
Responsibilities
- All members must be familiar with and adhere to department policies, standard operating procedures, job classifications, assigned duties, and any lawful instructions or orders from supervisors.
Emergency Response
- Upon receiving an emergency alarm, members must cease all activities.
- Members must immediately report to their assigned apparatus.
- Members must respond to the emergency without delay and exert reasonable effort to perform to the best of their abilities, considering the circumstances.
Competent Performance
- Members must perform their duties at the highest standard of efficiency.
- Unsatisfactory performance may include excessive or unauthorized leave, tardiness, lack of knowledge, failure to meet work standards, failure to demonstrate good conduct, insubordination, or noncompliance with department policies, guidelines, rules, directives, and orders.
Safety
- Members must take reasonable safety precautions and use good judgment to prevent injury to themselves or others while on duty.
- Members are expected to report or prevent unsafe behavior observed or witnessed.
Driver's License
- All members must possess a valid driver's license and have the appropriate training for their assigned duties, approved by the Fire Chief or designee.
- Members must be familiar with the state vehicle code, any manuals specific to driving or operating department apparatus, and all applicable department policies and procedures.
- Members must report any changes in their driver's license status to their supervisor.
- Failure to maintain a valid driver's license, in line with current classification specifications, could result in disciplinary action.
Proper Completion of Written Communication
- Members must complete and submit reports, forms, and memos by the end of their assigned shift, unless approved by a Battalion Chief.
- This submission must occur in accordance with any other applicable department policy or procedure.
- Reports, forms, and memos must be truthful and complete.
- Members must not knowingly enter or cause to be entered incorrect, incomplete, false, or improper information.
Fire Department Identification
- Members must carry their badges and identification cards on their person while on duty, in accordance with the Badges Policy, except when impractical or dangerous.
- Members are expected to furnish their names and department identification numbers to anyone who requests that information, unless the member's personal safety is at risk.
Loss of Equipment
- Members must report the loss or recovery of any department badge, identification card, manual, key, or equipment to their supervisor.
- A police report should be filed in the jurisdiction where the loss occurred, in the case of an equipment loss.
