Competencies of School Heads
- The National Competency-Based Standards for School Heads (NCBSSH) outlines the expected competencies of school heads, issued in DepEd Order 32, s. 2010 on April 16, 2010.
- The competencies are categorized into five domains:
- Domain 1: Strategic thinking and innovation (administrative leadership)
- Domain 3: Personal excellence (instructional and administrative leadership)
- Domain 4: Stakeholders' engagement (administrative leadership)
- Domain 5: Managerial leadership (administrative leadership)
School Head and the Community
- The school head plays a crucial role in partnering with the community for the education of the child.
- Involving the school and community in policy formulation develops a sense of ownership, ensuring effective policy implementation.
- A school head must ensure wide dissemination and correct understanding of the policy among the school and community.
Roles and Competencies of School Heads
- According to RA 9155, the school head is both an administrative and instructional leader.
- As an instructional leader, the school head supervises instruction, observes teachers, conducts post-observation conferences, mentors and coaches teachers, and ensures teachers have the necessary resources.
- Improvement of instruction is a primary concern, as it directly affects student learning.
Teachers and the Community
- A teacher is a facilitator of learning and development, providing an environment conducive to learning and growth.
- Teachers are expected to participate in community movements for moral, social, educational, economic, and civic betterment.
- Teachers should live for and with the community, understanding local customs and traditions, and exhibiting a sympathetic attitude.
