Levels of Bibliographic Control

  • There are two levels: Universal Bibliographic Control (UBC) and National Bibliographic Control (NBC)
  • Universal Bibliographic Control (UBC) is a cooperation that combines efforts in bibliographic information at the national level of countries to create an international network system.
  • National Bibliographic Control (NBC) aims to list information sources in a systematic manner to enable awareness of available information and its location.

National Bibliographic Control (NBC)

  • Involves standardization of bibliographic description and subject access by means of uniform catalog code, classification systems, name authorities, and preferred headings.
  • Includes creation and maintenance of catalogs, union lists, and finding aids.
