Writing Acid Names
- Hydro is added to the beginning of the name when the acid is composed of two elements, hydrogen, and a nonmetal.
- **-ic ** is added to the end of the name when the acid is composed of a nonmetal and oxygen and the nonmetal's name ends in -ate
- -ous is added to the end of the name when the acid is composed of a nonmetal and oxygen and name of the nonmetal ends in -ite
- Acetic acid is an exception to the rules and common name.
