Inserting Tables in MS Word
- To insert an empty table, click Table in the Insert tab to display the Insert Table gallery.
- To insert a more customized empty table, click Insert Table below the grid in the Insert Table gallery.
- To insert a less clearly defined empty table, click Draw Table below the grid in the Insert Table gallery.
- The user can specify the number of rows and columns in the Insert Table dialog box.
- The user can draw cells directly in the document to create a table by clicking Draw Table below the grid in the Insert Table gallery.
Navigating Tables in MS Word
- To move the cursor from cell to cell, use the keyboard by pressing the Tab key or the Arrow keys.
- When the cursor is in a table, two Table Tools contextual tabs appear on the ribbon: Design and Layout.
- The move handle appears in the upper-left corner of a table when the user points to it.
- The size handle appears in the lower-right corner of a table when the user points to it.
Modifying Tables in MS Word
- To insert a row in a table, click anywhere in the row adjacent to the insertion point and then click Insert Above or Insert Below in the Rows & Columns group.
- To insert a column in a table, click anywhere in the column adjacent to the insertion point and then click Insert Left or Insert Right in the Rows & Columns group.
- To delete a row in a table, click anywhere in the row and then click Delete Rows in the Rows & Columns group.
- To delete a column in a table, click anywhere in the column and then click Delete Columns in the Rows & Columns group.
- To delete a table, click anywhere in the table and then click Delete Table in the Rows & Columns group.
Resizing Tables in MS Word
- To resize a table, drag the size handle.
- To resize a column in a table, drag its right border to the left or right.
- To resize a row in a table, drag its bottom border up or down.
Moving Tables in MS Word
- To move a table, point to the table and then drag the move handle.
Merging Cells in MS Word
- To merge cells in a table, select the cells and then click the Merge Cells button in the Merge group.
- To divide one cell in a table into multiple cells, click the Split Cells button in the Merge group.
Inserting Pictures in MS Word
- To insert a picture, the user must specify the source of the picture by clicking the Picture button in the Illustrations group on the Insert tab.
- When the user selects a picture or drawing object in a document, the Format contextual tab is displayed.
- The user can use the commands on the Format contextual tab to modify the picture, compress it, resize it, crop it, recolor it, apply artistic effects to it, change its brightness, or change its contrast.
