Grooming Standards Overview
- All personnel of Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) must maintain a neat and well-groomed appearance.
- Exceptions related to health or safety must be requested annually and authorized by the Fire Chief.
Personnel Categories
- Civilian Personnel: Not required to wear uniforms.
- Uniformed Personnel (Non-Sworn): Required to wear uniforms but less restrictive grooming standards.

General Guidelines

Uniformed Personnel (Sworn) Grooming Standards

- Unrestrained hair cannot extend below uniform collar; restrained hair limited to 6” below collar.
- Natural colors only; extreme styles like mohawks or shaved designs are not permitted.
Jewelry
- Necklaces and pendants must be worn beneath the uniform; only one ring per hand allowed.
- Bracelets limited to one per wrist, and earrings restricted to stud types.
- No jewelry affixed to uniform or body visible parts excluding ears.
Fingernails
- Neat and clean fingernails must not exceed 1/8” beyond fingertip; neutral nail polish only.

Cosmetics
