Infection Control
- Standard Precautions: include measures for CMV, HIV, Hepatitis B & C, Aspergillus, Tuberculosis, Coronavirus.
- Airborne Precautions: involve measures for diseases like Measles, Chicken pox, Small pox, Tuberculosis, Coronavirus.
- Droplet Precautions: are used for diseases like Streptococcal, Meningitis, Diphtheria, Rubella, Influenza, RSV.
- Contact Precautions: are utilized for diseases like MRSA, Ebola, Staphylococcus.
- Tuberculosis: is an epidemic concern; includes N95 masks, Mantoux/PPD tests (results within 48-72 hours), and potential side effects from Isoniazid (numbness, hepatitis symptoms, stomach upset, rashes). TB diagnosis requires sputum culture, ideally performed early in the morning.
- Meningitis: covers Streptococcal, Meningococcal vaccines, neck rigidity, and observation of CSF (Cerebrospinal Fluid) for cloudiness /appearance.
IV Solutions
- Isotonic Solutions: include 0.9% NaCl, 0.45% NaCl, Lactated Ringer, Ringers' solution, and 5% dextrose in water (D5W).
- Hypotonic Solutions: include 0.2% NaCl and 2.5% D5W (dextrose in water).
- Hypertonic Solutions: 3% and 5% NaCl, in conjunction with D/W.
