Mediastinum Structures
- The middle mediastinum contains the heart, tracheal bifurcation, and main bronchi, as well as the pulmonary arteries and veins.
Nerve Supply
- The phrenic nerve supplies the parietal pleura.
Blood Supply
- The blood supply for the parietal pleura is from the internal thoracic arteries, intercostal arteries, and phrenic arteries.
Mediastinum Divisions
- The posterior mediastinum contains the esophagus, two vagi, and descending aorta & its branches.
Pain Sensitivity
- The pleura is not sensitive to pain.
Mediastinum Subdivisions
- The diaphragm divides the inferior mediastinum into the anterior, middle, and posterior mediastinum.
Learn about the anatomical structure of the mediastinum, its subdivisions, and the planes used to divide it. Understand the divisions into superior mediastinum and the further subdivisions of the inferior mediastinum.
